Water fun in the summer time

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

I asked David if we had enough wood left over from our floor remodelling project to build an ark. Goodness gracious!!! I can not believe that it is raining here in Texas so much in the month of June. At least I don't have to water our lawn.

We were lucky enough to have a break in the rain, but not from the heat and humidity, this past weekend to enjoy some water fun. Reagan's Aunt Colleen (AC) and Uncle John (UJ) have just recently moved to Austin from Virginia. We are so happy to have them close by...and they have a pool!!!! (But really, even if they didn't have a pool we'd be just as happy since they are close to us.) AC and UJ went out of town this weekend, and we were lucky enough to have to go and check on their kitty, Belle. We thought it would be very nice and considerate if we also checked on their pool. You never know what might happen to the water in just a couple of days. Reagan was pleased to see if the water was still swim-able. And it was! I'm sure AC and UJ were glad to know that the pool was ok. Towards the end of our check-up, Reagan and Daddy thought that they needed to check on the rockfall and slide. (Since this was towards the end of our pool time, I had already taken off Reagan's swim trunks. Excuse the swim diaper in the pictures.)

Oh, and Belle was ok.

On Sunday Reagan wanted to do one of his favorite backyard activities. He LOVES to play with the water hose. We first had the sprinklers on for him to run through, but he'd much rather try to drink water from the hose and experiment with all of the nozel settings. This is alot of fun to watch. (I have a video to post, but I need my computer smart husband to help me make it smaller so that it doesn't take forever to load.) He can play like this for about 45 minutes before he realizes that he's actually shivering. I'm glad he enjoys free fun.

Remember Easter??

Yes, Easter was a few months back.

On the Thursday before Easter, Reagan's school hosted a picnic and egg hunt to which the parents of the kids were invited. Reagan was sooooo ready to get the eggs that he was upset about having to eat lunch first. In his defense, it was a bit unfair that he saw the teachers throw the eggs out onto the ground (they weren't really 'hidden') BEFORE lunch was served. I'd be ready to grab the eggs, too! He didn't even want to play on the playground while we waited. He just sat in the grass near the eggs and picked flowers--oh, and whined.

After lunch his teacher, Miss Patty, handed out the Easter sacks that the kids had made earlier in the week. Since I was the photographer Daddy was going to help Reagan find the eggs. Last Easter Reagan was mostly interested in seeing what was in each egg. He'd pick up an egg and then immediately open it. Daddy wanted to make sure that this didn't happen again. He told Reagan, "Once you see an egg, get it, and then drop it into your bag. Then look for another one."

Strategic planning for the egg hunt.

Miss Patty told us that each kid should get 10 eggs. She said, "Make sure your children get their 10 eggs." So off Reagan went with Daddy. He picked up every egg that he saw. He was fast. There were several times that he'd pick up an egg, and instead of putting into his bag he'd just go off to the next one he saw. He would have 3 eggs in one hand! He was serious and on an Easter egg mission. When we got home we counted our eggs. We had come home with about 13 more than the 10 we were told to get. Oops!

Here's egg number 15!

Remember how cold it was on Easter? It actually snowed here on Sunday! That didn't stop the Easter Bunny from visiting our house, though! He brought Reagan 4 Bob the Builder trucks...that was the very start of our Bob collection. We now have all but 3 of the 13 trucks that they sell. (What does that say about Reagan's parents??) Before these trucks Reagan was just interested in the Bob books. We now have checked out a few of the movies from the library and have seen a few episodes on PBS. Now David and I are usually waking up to the Bob theme song through the baby monitor. Reagan sings the song ALL THE TIME. It is mostly when he's playing by himself...in fact, even when he's on a playground and climbing around on the playscapes I hear him saying, "Bob the Builder, can we fix it? Bob the Builder. Yes, we can!" over and over again. I guess there are worse things he could be singing.

Playing with all of his Bob the Builder toys in his Bob the Builder underwear and singing the theme song.

Father's Day at the races

Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

David, Reagan and I drove up to the Dallas area to Lone Star Park for the horse races on Father's Day. It was a treat for Reagan's dad, but it was really a treat for my dad. He didn't know we were coming. In fact, he didn't know anything was happening until it actually happened!

Reagan was a champ the entire day. No, he didn't win any money, but he was so well behaved the entire time~~the 3 hour drive there, the 4 or so hours at the races, and the 3 hour drive back to Austin. I say this over and over, but I always think that days like that are going to be hard on him. Nope! He played well with the toys that he brought when all of the adults were inside planning their wagers and watching the races. He loved going outside with Daddy and Grandaddy to watch the horses as they raced past the finish line. He even got to pet a horse's nose!! Now he talkes about the horse races all the time, and he's looking forward to next time where "maybe there will be cow races and chicken races". I hope he won't be too disappointed with just the horses...

Watching the horses get into the starting gates (on the big TV).

It was so fun to watch Reagan play with his grandaddy at the races. Here are a few pictures of Grandaddy trying to find what Reagan has in his pocket (and maybe in his mouth!).

A new way to share

Sunday, June 24, 2007

I am taking the lead from a friend of mine. I am in love with the way she has been posting pictures of her family AND the stories that go with the pictures. I feel that because Reagan is doing so much lately it is hard for me to send monthly updates without leaving out some of the most fun (and funny) things that he does. With this blog you can check to see if there are any new posts and pictures whenever it is convenient for you. (I have bookmarked my friend's blog into my favorite websites--and I admit that I check it everyday when I check my email.)

For the first few posts, I will be sharing some pictures that go all the back to EASTER!!!! I am sorry that it has been so long since I have sent any new pictures--we have been busy! The first picture is one from a few months ago that my blogging friend took of Reagan and her daughter after we had lunch together.

Walking hand in hand. What good friends.

I will still post the link to entire albums when they are updated for those of you who would like to see all the pictures that we do take.
