Running Man

After training for almost a year, David completed his first marathon a couple of weeks ago. I can not tell you how proud I am of him. He did an amazing job, AND he had a very bad cold the week leading up to the big event. He says it did slow him down--but not by much!

Reagan and I left the house after the race started, and we picked up my mom and sister--we all wanted to go and cheer him on. We first stopped at mile 13 or 14, but we figured that we had just missed him (based on his running pace). So we hopped back into the car, fought traffic and road closures and stopped at mile 21.

We were there for over an hour. Reagan did really good at entertaining himself while my mom, my sister, and I cheered on the runners. Most of the runners looked like they were really hurting, and some were even crying as they ran!

When we saw David coming towards us, we really started cheering. I was actually amazed at how great he looked. (He told me later that he had stopped 300 yards before he saw us and stretched for a while.) I started running with him to ask him how he was doing. He said he was hurting, but doing well.

Then I heard my sister yell out my name. Just then a cute little four year old dashed out and caught up to us.

We then got back into our car and drove the the finish line. Downtown Austin was crazy with all the runners and supporters! I really wanted to see David cross the finish line, but it was just too crazy for me to get up to the actual finish. We finally spotted him just after he crossed the finish line, and he immediatly sprawled out on the ground. He was exhausted!

I think he would like to run another one to see how well he'd do without being sick, but I'm pretty sure he's glad that the next marathon isn't this week!

Hola.

Ok, I don't speak spanish. I took 5 years of french. So maybe I should say "bonjour". Sounds a bit formal for this neck of the woods, though.

I haven't been updating, but I have been reading other blogs. I'm in this weird blogging space where I'm so absolutely busy, yet I have nothing worth blogging about. This has been my life:

1. I'm stressed with school. Being a third grade teacher in Texas means that I'm getting ready for my students to take (and pass) the state test--the TAKS test. They have to pass the reading section in order to go to 4th grade. Out of 22 kids, I have 4 kids that will pass, but only by 70-80%, 16 kids will pass with a 90%+ and 2 kids that have very little chance of passing the first time. We're all stressed and sick of TAKS. We welcome March 3rd.

2. Reagan has been sick. Not really in-bed kind of sick. But he hasn't been 100% since right before Christmas. His latest thing was walking pneumonia. Now he has this cough that seems to go on 24/7, and I'm sick of it. I'm sure he is, too.

3. David has had a cold this past week. And we all know how men are when they are sick. Not. fun. to. be. with.

That is about it. Boring, huh?
