Wildflowers and The Caf-FAY!

Thursday, September 20, 2007

After a long few days of being sick with a high fever, Reagan was feeling much better yesterday. He told me that he wanted to go to "Wildflowers"~~this is Reagan for The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Whew--his version is much easier to type, so we'll stick to "Wildflowers".
We have been once before a few weeks ago, and I was surprised by how much we both enjoyed it. Wildflowers is just beautiful. They have everything labeled, so I have come back with many ideas for things I want to plant in our own flower beds. There are also walking paths in fields that we have not done yet...we're waiting on Daddy to go with us when it is a bit cooler. Yesterday was a wonderful day to go because there were tons and tons of butterflies! They were everywhere. It was so fun to walk through them hoping that they would land on us.
There are several little streams and pools that have tiny fish in them. Reagan and I saw many dragonflies, and we also spotted two little frogs!

Sitting by a stream. Do you see the little guy in the middle?

Wildflowers also has a children's section. There is a building where kids can go in and color pictures, read books, and look at different aquariums. There was also a huge container of ladybugs!! Outside in the children's area there are 3 giant pots filled with dirt and rocks that the kids can dig through to find little "treasures". This is by far Reagan's favorite part of the whole place.

Digging for treasure and playing with his loot in the cafe.

Reagan's second favorite thing to do is eat in the cafe at Wildflowers. He loves walking around with the map that is given to you when you talking about where the "caf-FAY" is. Once we're in the cafe he keeps on telling me, and everyone else in a 1/2 mile radius, "We're in the caf-FAY!". (I need to record him saying it so you can hear just how funny he sounds saying 'cafe'.)

The Jeep Lives

David had to take his car into the dealership to have some work done last Monday. They were nice enough to give him a rental...however, the rental car was not up to his standards. He had decided that driving this other car was not nearly as bad as driving the Jeep. So on Saturday afternoon he pulled it out of the garage, aired up the tires, cleaned out whatever creepy-crawlies that had taken up residence, charged the battery, and decided to wash it.

Some of you might not exactly know what kind of condition this beast is in. Don't get me wrong. The Jeep is (was) fun to ride in. It is up on tall tires, and it doesn't have the hard top on it so you ride in the open air. It is also a very bouncy ride which makes it a substitute roller coaster on just the right type of road! (And I LOVE roller coasters!!) However...the Jeep has sat through YEARS (not an exaggeration) in the elements without said hard top. Therefore the seat upholstery is starting to rip apart. There is no longer a back seat in the Jeep. The visors are decaying. There is no radio/cd player because those have a hard time working in wet weather. At one time there was a wasp nest right underneath the steering wheel. And the worst part?? There is NO air conditioning...and I do not count the open Texas air (in August and September) as A/C.

Like I said, we decided the Jeep was a better choice than the rental.

I got a video of Reagan helping his daddy wash the Jeep. It isn't the best video, but it is kind of cute to watch the hose throw him off balance a bit.

Reagan had a great time helping Daddy get the Jeep all wet and wash it with a soapy sponge. He would rather his hand not get soapy, though.

So the Jeep got cleaned. It got driven around the block (this is the first time in at least a year). And it is now back in the garage. But for some reason it didn't get called up to the Big Show... David decided to drive the rental for the rest of the weekend until he got his car back. I feel a little sorry for it.

Just a little.

Conversations with Reagan

WARNING: This may not be something that I should share, but I am writing this here because that is what a blog is~~a place to journal and to write things you'd like to remember.

A few nights ago I put to Reagan to bed. We laid in bed together for quite a long time. We were snuggling and "talking about what God made", and I was scratching his back. He was in his cute, 2nd hand Gymboree SCUBA jammies~~they are a one piece outfit that zips down the front. David loves this type of pj, especially when it comes to diaper changes. [insert sarcasm here] I kissed him goodnight, told him that I love him, and I left the room.

About 3 to 5 minutes later I hear Reagan calling for me.

Reagan: Mommy, come back! Mooommmmmmyyy! I want Mommy!!

This went on for a good 5 minutes which is unusual. So I decided to go in there to check on him thinking that maybe something had fallen out of his bed and he wanted it back.

Me: Reagan, what is it?

Reagan: I need new jammies.

Me: Why?

Reagan: I don't like these jammy pants.

Me: Why not? What's wrong with them?

Reagan: I can't stick my hands down them.

[What?!?! What is it with boys/men and hands down their pants???]

Me: Ok, let's find some new jammies.

I proceeded to search for new jammies in the dark. Good thing Reagan sleeps with a flashlight. I found some, and then we did some excellent team work! He held the flashlight and kept it turned on in my direction while I helped him put on new jammies.

I kissed him goodnight again and left the room. We didn't hear another sound from him all night.

Talk about self-soothing...

I Have Been Tagged

Saturday, September 08, 2007

I've been tagged...here's the rules:
1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Eight Random Facts About Me:
1. I lived a year and half in South Louisiana~~right in the middle of Cajun Country (New Iberia, LA)~~ while in high school. I spent the second half of my junior year and all of my senior year there. Other than that short time, I have always lived in Texas.

2. I HATE when the cabinet doors/pantry door/closet doors are left open (but I love you very much, David).

3. I am very non-confrontational, and I can not imagine being any other way. I don't even "wish" that I could argue because it makes me very uncomfortable to think about what a situation would be like.

4. David and I knew "of" each other in the 5th grade...our first memories of each other are from then. However, we didn't become friends until 6th grade math class. We've been best friends ever since!

5. My two best girl friends from high school were also Kelly's...Kelly F. in Irving and Keli D. in New Iberia.

6. I hate shots/needles. I have fainted at least twice because of receiving them, and since then I just can't handle evening looking at a syringe. Even if it is on tv, I get the same feeling in my stomach that I do when I think of being argumentative. (see number 3)

7. Don't tell David, but I secretly love the fact that he plays Fantasy Football. I like watching Sunday football with him to cheer on his players. What I don't like about it is that we watch 3 or 4 games at one time~~flipping back and forth! Drives me crazy!!!

8. I wish I were harder on myself than I am.

TAGGED: Everyone that I know who blogs has already been tagged. Would love to read random facts from those of you who don't blog! Just leave me a comment!!
